AI-Act and Beyond: How Can We Strengthen the Innovation and Competitiveness of AI Companies in Europe? Impulses from the Baden-Württemberg AI Ecosystem
on Thursday, 26 September 2024, from 06:00 p.m.
at the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the EU, Rue Belliard 60 – 62, 1040 Brussels.
Background
One of the EU's most pressing tasks after the summer break is to implement the world's first law on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI-Act), which came into force in August 2024. The focus will be on adjustments, among others, such as the development of technical standards, the definition of requirements for high-risk AI systems as well as the creation of conformity assessment procedures and the establishment of operational rules for AI sandboxes.
From an economic policy perspective, it will now be a matter of creating legal certainty as quickly as possible and implementing the legal framework in such a way that we can guarantee the greatest possible freedom for research and development and take into account the rapid dynamics in AI developments. Companies should also be supported in the quick commercialisation and market launch of AI products and services.
Minister Dr. Hoffmeister-Kraut, together with representatives of the European Institutions and stakeholders of the Baden-Württemberg AI ecosystem, will provide impetus for strengthening the innovation and competitiveness of AI companies and the transfer of research into practice. David Reger, CEO of NEURA Robotics from Metzingen, and Moritz Gräter, CEO of the Innovation Park AI (IPAI) in Heilbronn, will highlight the great opportunities that the use of AI offers to keep Germany and Europe internationally at the forefront of this field.
