Forum Rhine-Meuse
on Wednesday, 12 April 2023, from 09:00 a.m.
at the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union (Rue Belliard 60 - 62, 1040 Brussels)
Background
Mobility is of vital importance to society and the economy. Innovation continues to drive mobility and mobility technologies forward. At the same time, mobility is increasingly reaching its limits - with far-reaching consequences. The transport sector is a major source of environmental pollution in the European Union, contributing to climate change, pollution and noise as one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases. Meanwhile, the much-needed shift towards low-emission modes of transport and sustainable mobility is still progressing too slowly. Cooperation between different actors at regional, national and European level is therefore necessary to move towards a sustainable and borderless transport sector, to meet climate change targets and to achieve territorial cohesion. The Rhine-Meuse Forum 2023 provides an opportunity for politics, research, economy and civil society actors to come together and enter into an exchange. There is a close cross-border cooperation between the different actors in Germany, France, the Benelux countries and Switzerland, but there are still major challenges ahead. In many cases, the framework conditions defined at the European Union level provide the basis for moving forward together, be it for decarbonising the transport sector or developing interoperable transport routes. These and many other topics will be discussed at the Rhine-Meuse Forum 2023.
This event is organised in partnership with the French Embassy in Belgium, the Benelux Union and the House of the Dutch Provinces.
