Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (CCAM) not only helps to improve traffic flow, optimize logistics chains, and promote the expansion of public transport; it also increases safety, reduces emissions, and enhances quality of life, especially in cities—in short, CCAM supports a comprehensive, cross-modal mobility transition!
Digital test fields in road traffic are an essential building block on the path to the practical viability of CCAM. They offer a wide range of technical, digital, and infrastructural possibilities for testing purposes. Research and development activities in the area of automated and connected driving can be tested and further optimized under realistic, controlled conditions.
In Germany, the four federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westfalia, and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg have successfully demonstrated at the national level that a coordinated approach contributes to effectively integrating digital test fields into the research and development activities of research institutions, universities, and industry. The results of a joint coordination activity of four test fields clearly show that experience exchange, knowledge transfer, problem-solving approaches, and networking of the involved stakeholders (test field operators, decision-makers, and mobility experts) are essential to address the technical, economic, legal, and social challenges associated with autonomous driving in a targeted manner. The experiences gained in implementing KoTAM (Coordination of the autonomous mobility test fields) have also shown that, in addition to nationwide coordination of the test fields, networking within the EU is desirable.
The event offers an opportunity for representatives from politics, science, industry, associations, and civil society to exchange views on this topic. Through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and themed sessions, we will explore how cross-border coordination of digital test field activities could advance the development of automated and connected driving across Europe. The event will conclude with a get-together at the Baden-Württemberg State Representation.
A simultaneous interpretation into German and English will be provided.
