Climate protection and mobility - implementing the sector goal!
Political decisions in Baden-Württemberg, Germany and Europe

on 8 April 2017 from 5 pm

at the

Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union, Rue Belliard 60-62, 1040 Brussels

Background

Climate change is proceeding noticeably, and the decision makers need to refine climate goals with regard to tipping points in the climate system. Emissions from transport have not declined. Germany will clearly miss its climate protection target in the transport sector. We urgently need further tools and frameworks to reach the reduction target in transport. Successful approaches from pilot projects and funding programs must become the norm.

The goal for the transport sector is ambitious. Though, with combined efforts, the EU, the Federal Government, the federal states and the private sector can achieve this goal. The Federal Government is planning a Climate Protection Act and for this purpose, the "National Platform for the Future of Mobility" (NPM) will propose paths and instruments for a greenhouse gas neutral transport system. The EU has decided to increase the CO2 fleet limits; a stronger framework for e-fuels based on renewable energies would be just as important.

Economically strong federal states need to make far more efforts for climate protection in the transport sector as well. The Ministry of Transport of Baden-Württemberg has begun to implement a climate protection strategy for the transport sector based on scientific studies. Baden-Württemberg promotes many of these transformation ideas in the "Strategic Dialogue for the Automotive Sector". It is now essential to establish planning and investment security for businesses and private actors and to overcome obstacles in order to link climate protection and mobility in the future.

Together with you, we would like to discuss the upcoming political framework.
