Regional Strategy Sustainable Bioeconomy: Baden-Württemberg - Role Model for Europe?

on 25 September 2019 at 11:45 a.m.

at the

Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union, Rue Belliard 60-62 1040 Brussels

With its strategy on a "Sustainable Bioeconomy", which was adopted this summer, Baden-Württemberg establishes a framework for a sustainable development of a bioeconomy within the state. The goal is to develop renewable or recyclable resources by using innovative biological concepts, that will lower greenhouse gas emissions, protect natural resources and reinforce biodiversity.

For this purpose, the intelligent use of renewable raw materials and other biological resources will be promoted further. This serves to protect our natural livelihood and strengthens Baden-Württemberg as an economic hub, equally in rural areas as well as in urban regions.

The development of the aforementioned strategy took place over the course of one year through a participation process involving stakeholders from economy and society and in close collaboration with the European Commission's Joint Research Center. Both processes, the revision of the EU bioeconomy strategy on the one hand and the development of the state strategy of Baden-Württemberg as a regional approach on the other hand, have interacted and inspired each other.

With the help of the strategy on a "Sustainable Bioeconomy", Baden-Württemberg aims at becoming a role-model for sustainable economy.

We would like to invite you to discuss our vision for a sustainable bioeconomy in Europe.
